.................................................. What cars do you teach in?
A very popular question, and one that deserves a straight answer...
but I won't give one... yet!! Almost every small to medium car would do a good job and be nice to learn to drive
in and there are many to choose from. Very few instructors would spend £12000-16000 on a car that was not suitable to
earn them a living. It will be irrelevant the day you pass what car you learnt to drive in. If you are looking for a
certain model car, say a '####' because it's trendy and then you fail 4 tests, your instructor keeps
putting up prices, never turns up for lessons and also shouts at you. Then you realise the '####' is a mask
to hide the instructors inadequacies and is just 'a marketing tool' I suppose a consolation
would be, you can always say to people "well I did learn in a ####" Having said all that, you do need a car
that suits your needs, we all like a nice car but it must be able to do an all round job. A certain car does not necessarily reflect the
teaching skills of an instructor, as he or she may love their car that me or you may hate, but obviously a
car and instructor are a 'package' that comes together. All cars listed below are very good, and each
car is a personal choice reflecting cost, reliability, parts availability, looks and previous experience with that
specific manufacturer. We teach in the fantastic highlighted cars below, and are our current preffered choice, with
upto a £16000 budget. Both have air con, abs brakes, electric windows, electric mirrors, front and side
airbags, 4/5 star ncap rating, power steering and lots of other technical boring stuff! Dual controls, extra mirrors,
clear 'L' plates and fully comprehensive driving
school insurance are all also part of the tuition car.
Independent learner training car road tests results (a selection) in no relevant order
all rated out of 5;
As
you can see the only car above that gets a 5 is the car most people would smile at, if an instructor quoted this make,
but it is reported to be a fantastic car to teach in and to own and public opinion is changing. A car you like is
important, but a quality instructor has to be the priority. Luckily at roadworks we believe you get both!
..................................................
Can I use your tuition vehicle on my test?
Yes! If you have learned to drive with us, developed
your skills with us, and booked a test with the advice of us, the cars all yours, it's all part of your tuition and our
service to you. We charge a 2 hour fixed fee (£38/40). (Not £60/70 like some schools).
..........
Red Alert!!!!!
Please only read the below answer if the above was not suitable;
No! If you haven't learned to drive with us
and just want to use our car for a test. We do not rent our cars out to people who want to hire a car for a driving test.
And please don't call us to ask. We are committed to our customers who want to learn to drive, and will not cancel
lessons with our loyal customers to accommodate you. Why not take the car you have 'perfected' your driving in,
if one exsists.

Is it true that your jokes at least 50 years old?
Having consulted all parties involved in this serious matter, we
have reluctantly had 3 executive lunches, 2 health spa weekends and 1 casino evening to discuss this issue.
And we have found an answer. We can 100% categorically deny that our jokes are not, at all 50 years old. I can reassure you, without
doubt, hesitation or any element of qualm that our jokes are at least 100 years old!!......
........learning to drive is a very serious matter and choosing
the correct instructor can be a very difficult situation. Once you have started to have your tuition, your lessons can
be, and should be thoroughly enjoyed. As you continue to develop your skills, things can get, at times quite demanding, especially
in a city like Leicester. The above is an example of a break from the intensity of a serious situation. At roadworks
we believe we have found a good balance so your lessons are 100% constructive, without taking away the enjoyment of learning
to drive. An intense on the edge lesson every week will achieve nothing but turn the experience of learning to drive into
a demoralising chore, and possibly cease to improve your skills or give up altogether.
Whoever you choose to learn to drive with, we hope you look forward to, and enjoy each lesson, and
we wish you the very best of luck!
..........................................................
Questions you may not think of asking.. ..but wish you
did?!
Do you often dissappear on holiday for 3-4 weeks at a time giving just a one weeks'
or less notice?
This really does
happen, a lot! At Roadworks we have 3 separate weeks off per year plus a few days off at christmas (depending what days christmas
and new year fall). We are totally committed to your lessons and progress, and our holidays are very well planned in advance.
..................................................
Is an important part of my lesson driving you to the shops
to get some lunch?
Would you book
lessons with an instructor who beforehand, you knew would do this? Very occasionally we may have to re-fuel during a lesson,
if for example a petrol station have been too busy to visit earlier that day, or has been temporarily closed due to a tanker
delivery. Our 'lunch' or 'banking' or 'visiting friends' or anything not connected with your lesson
will not happen during your time.
..................................................
Will you regularly turn up 10-15 minutes late for
my lesson, pretend you have not, and then drop me off early so I have only had a 40-minute lesson?
You would never believe this happens to people learning to drive,
but I'm afraid it does! We often get calls from disillusioned people who simply want to learn to drive. At Roadworks we
never intend to be late, however if we are we will contact you, let you know what's happening and you will get the time
you have paid for.
..................................................
Will you cancel lessons at the last moment with lame pathetic
excuses so often told, you forgot your great-aunt had died twice, your house has been broken into 3 times previously
and your hamster had escaped for the 4th time chewing your telephone wire so you could not call me?
Another regular reason for people to be looking for a new instructor.
The same instructors continue to let people down time and time again; with the same ridiculous excuse they gave you 3
weeks ago! We rarely have to cancel lessons at Roadworks and have a record of less than 1 cancelled lesson in 1500! And
only with good unavoidable reason, as mentioned in our 'pupils charter' section.
..................................................
Will you arrange to pick me up in town, and then leave
me waiting there, when you have no intention of turning up anyway, then days later when you do finally return my call,
you abdicate all responsibility,
and say that I was not there!!!!!! ?
Please try to find an instructor with a good reputation. I have heard the above dozens of times from pupils
calling me looking for a new instructor. It should not happen to anyone, ever. But continues to.
..................................................
I'm not clever enough to make the above questions up (apart
from the hamster chewing the phone line!), they are too ridiculous but do happen. They are all genuine things I've have
heard too many times. Whether or not you choose Roadworks to learn to drive, please look for an established driving school
with a good reputation.
